Are you a Beer Snob? Good beer vs Good Cheap Beer!

reddog3 Are you a Beer Snob? Good beer vs Good Cheap Beer!Red dog, a beer that is looked down upon by anyone that drinks, “Real Beer”, right? Well, if you agree with that, you are a beer snob! That in itself is an oxymoron, beer is the drink of the commoner, not the “elite” but as time goes on, our levels of snobbery get deeper!

Yes, I would much prefer an Arrogant Bastard myself, but, I am currently a poor broke bastard instead!

However, if on a budget, Red Dog is not a bad choice! yes, it is now a cheap brew, but back in the day, when it first came out, it was anything but cheap!

So, if you are as broke as I am, look for the Dog! It is not that bad! I actually like it compared to the other “cheap” beers!

If you also happen to be one of those greenies, well, it is your fault! The cost of ingredients has gone up, way up, because of all the ethanol etc., beer just costs more to brew!

I used to pay about $40 a 50lb sack of malted barley, but now it is about 4 bucks a pound! Sorry, I cant afford to brew anymore!Thank God for those that want to get rid of oil, now, it costs more to drive, and to brew!

You’re paying $200 for a sack of Barley? I’m able to brew for less than $30 a batch. I pay $39 for 50 lbs of American 2-row. Hops are about $3 an oz, but yeast is really cheap. Four bucks a pound?!?!?! Do you live in Communist Russia?

I guess I should have explained where I got my price. I am in Texas, so a $40 sack of malt has to be shipped, that doubles the price. Yes, I can drive to Austin and pick it up myself, but that would also take a good $20-$30 in gas! My point is, when I started brewing, about 7-8 years ago, I could brew a 10 gallon batch, using real German malt, and only have about $30 in it, but not anymore, it has just gotten too expensive. I tried to buy a couple of six packs of Lagunitas IPA, there went almost 20 bucks! I guess I am just venting about the idiots using food to make gas! A dang 20lb sack of cat food has gone from 7 bucks to 12 in the last year! Make gas out of oil, not food!
