If you are a home brewer, I know that you are always looking for “The Place” to get your supplies, as I have been, but I have to admit that about 99% of the time, I have ordered from Austin Homebrew Supply. Why you might ask? First off they are close, and my order gets here within a coule of days, even in the summer, my yeast gets here with an icepack that is still cold!
The pricing is much lower than other stores and the service is excellent, if you order on-line visit Austin Homebrew Supply I will be making another order in a day or two myself. If you are lucky enough to live in the Austin area, here is their information.

Midwinter’s Porter
Midwinter’s Porter
Posted by Brian in December 30th, 2007
Published in Recipes
This is the winter recipe from Mainstreet
Homebrew’s newsletter. They bill it as bigger and bolder than most
west coast porters. It will be interesting to compare it to the west
coast porter I brewed earlier this month.
Midwinter’s Porter
8 lbs Amber Malt Extract
12 oz CaraMunich
4 oz 120l Crystal Malt
14 oz Chocolate Malt
6 oz Melanoidin
6 oz Special Roast
3 oz Carafa Malt
2 oz No. Brewer Hops (1 oz @ 60 min, 1/2 @ 20 min, 1/2 @ 10 min)
1 tsp Irish Moss @ 45 min
1/2 tsp Yeast nutrient @ 5 min
British Ale Yeast (WLP005)
OG 1.065
This sounds like a good recipe!
This comes from a very nice site, HomebrewBlog.net Check them out for more great stuff!

Kegerator Do’s and Don’ts
December 27, 2007 by CarpetGuy · Comments Off
Kegerator Do’s and Don’ts
TheDrunkMansBlog
Do’s
* Do get a kegerator. If you drink beer regularly, then it’s worth it. The beer is cheaper when you buy it by the keg, and it’s more convenient to just take your glass to the tap.
* If your wife or girlfriend objects to the kegerator, then tell her you are doing it to save the environment. After all, re-usable kegs are much more eco-friendly than all that glass for the bottles.
* Do clean your beer lines each time you switch out your keg(s). The beer in those lines is the perfect growth medium for bacteria and yeast that will make your beer taste like crap. Your lines should be cleaned once per month at the least.
(Read the rest at TheDrunkMansBlog)
I found this post by accident, got to looking around and found there is a lot of useful information at this site! I am putting this one in my Blogroll!

Have you made your New Year Resolutions yet?

Have you made your New Year Resolutions yet?
The number one resolution should be to enter the 2008 Upper Mississippi
Mash-Out. There are only 5 more days until entries are accepted.
Details can be found at: http://www.mnbrewers.com/mashout
The upcoming holiday weekend is a perfect time to drink some homebrew
and evaluate your entries. Don’t forget the carboys or kegs you didn’t
get around to bottling.
So pull out the BJCP guidelines and find style that matches your brew.
Remember, the style that could win you all the swag and the Best of Show
wooden chalice may not be the style that you actually tried to brew.
Take some time to sign up for judging and take part in the indoor
(growler) pub crawl, Brewer’s Forum, Stan Hieronymous lecture and other
perks for judges. http://www.mnbrewers.com/mashout/volunteer
Don’t miss out on the Belgian -themed beer banquet before the awards
ceremony – still only $30 per person. Chefs Manfred Krug and Jerry
Pelton, both instructors at the St Paul Vocational Technical Institute’s
Culinary program, have teamed together to prepare this year’s feast.

Best of Luck to all

How to Build a Kegerator
How to Build a Kegerator
Draft beer can be served in the comfort of one’s home with a kegerator (a portmanteau of “keg” and “refrigerator”). Kegerators are converted refrigerators that enable anyone to have one or more kegs of chilled beer on tap. Homebrewed beer as well as commercial kegs of beer can be served with a kegerator, and the quality will be identical to that found in your local tavern or brewpub. Kegerators are relatively easy to build and operate, and can be quite cost effective. Kegerators are also quite “green”, as they eliminate the need for bottled and canned beer. read more
I found this and thought it could be helpful, I use a chest freezer myself

Wyeast – Very Special Strains – Pure Liquid Yeast

VSS ACTIVATORTM
Very Special Strains – Pure Liquid Yeast
For the Months of October through December, 2007
Please be sure to visit our new website!
We’ve scored a trifecta, fulfilling all three of the goals that inspired creation of the VSS promotion: introducing a new strain from the French side of Flanders; bringing back a strain from our archives by popular demand, and releasing a Proprietary Strain from one of the most popular craft brewed beers in America !
Wyeast Laboratories, Inc. proudly presents:
Fat Tire Ale Yeast
from New Belgium Brewery
Fort Collins, Colorado
Used for brewing Fat Tire Amber Ale by the brewers at New Belgium, who are looking forward to hearing from you at brewer@newbelgium.com.
Like the ageless delight of pedaling a bicycle, Fat Tire Amber Ale’s appeal is in its feat of balance: Toasty malt flavors (sorta’ like biscuits just pulled from the oven) coasting in equilibrium with crisp hoppiness. Delicious stability – in the world of sometimes-precarious beer flavors – is perhaps what prompted one consumer to write “this beer just makes you smile.”
Fat Tire’s depth of flavor, achieved with neither a disproportionate sway toward hops or malts, tandems well with a full spectrum of today’s engaging cuisines.
Fat Tire is so named for the bike trip founding brewer Jeff Lebesch took through Belgium that greatly inspired his homebrewing efforts.
Please visit New Belgium’s website at www.newbelgium.com.
From our archives by popular demand
Wyeast 3864 VSS Canadian/Belgian Ale
Produces mild phenols, which increase with increased fermentation temperatures. Low ester profile with a dry, slightly tart finish. Complex and well-balanced, alcohol tolerant.
Alcohol tolerance: approximately 12% ABV
Flocculation: medium
Apparent attenuation: 75-79%
Temperature range: 65-80°F (18-27°C)
New
Wyeast 3711 VSS French Saison
Produces saison or farmhouse style bières that are highly aromatic with clean, citrus-ester, peppery and spicy notes with no earthiness, and low phenol. This strain enhances the use of spices and aroma hops, and is extremely attenuative, but leaves an unexpected silky and rich mouthfeel in a very dry finished beer.
Alcohol tolerance: 12% ABV
Flocculation: low
Attenuation: 77-83%
Temperature range: 65-77°F (18-25°C)
We are excited to bring you these Very Special Strains, and we welcome your comments. Please feel free to contact us at vss@wyeastlab.com. Let us know what you think of this promotion and what strains you’d like to see offered in the future.
