Midwinter’s Porter

Published in Recipes

This is the winter recipe from Mainstreet
Homebrew’s newsletter. They bill it as bigger and bolder than most
west coast porters. It will be interesting to compare it to the west
coast porter I brewed earlier this month.

Midwinter’s Porter
8 lbs Amber Malt Extract
12 oz CaraMunich
4 oz 120l Crystal Malt
14 oz Chocolate Malt
6 oz Melanoidin
6 oz Special Roast
3 oz Carafa Malt
2 oz No. Brewer Hops (1 oz @ 60 min, 1/2 @ 20 min, 1/2 @ 10 min)
1 tsp Irish Moss @ 45 min
1/2 tsp Yeast nutrient @ 5 min
British Ale Yeast (WLP005)
OG 1.065

This sounds like a good recipe!

This comes from a very nice site, HomebrewBlog.net Check them out for more great stuff!

gorilla6 Happy New Year!Ok, we made it through one more year! I hope that everyone has had a wonderful 2007 and an even better 2008!

I just dread one thing, when I have to write the date on a check or something, somehow it seems to take until june before I get it right. This year I may add posts about brew pubs etc into the category list, why not right?

Anyone that has a favorite, beer, brew, bar or related site, post a comment here and I will check them out!

Again, I wish everybody a wonderful new year! Have a Cold one!

    Avery The Reverend

December 28, 2007 By: CarpetGuy Category: Beer Topics, Cool Websites No Comments →

    Avery The ReverendThe Reverend

Found: Liquor store down in Kennesaw, Georgia
    Price: 6 dollars a bottle
    Website: http://www.averybrewing.com
What the company says: The Reverend, was created in tribute to the life of Sales Mgr. Tom Boogaard’s grandfather, an ordained Episcopal Reverend. Tom was inspired by the life of his grandfather and wanted to create a tribute beer that contained his sterling traits. True to both our “small brewery, BIG BEERS” philosophy and to the spirit and character of the departed Reverend, this beer is assertive, and pure of heart, a heart of candy sugar. It contains as many authentic imported Belgian specialty malts as the brewers could cram into our mash tun, and lots of Belgian dark candy sugar stirred into the brew kettle. A divinely complex and beautifully layered beer with hints of dark cherries, currants, and molasses, complimented by an underlying spiciness and a finish that is Sinfully smooth!Cellarable for 4 years.

    Clubby Reviews Affligem Noel

Ok, so in my last blog I lied a little bit. Apparently the Dunkel we made, so far, smells like old eggs in the purse of a dirty prostitute. But, that’s to be expected, it is a lager…
Anyway….to the review we go! (Read more at CampfireBrewery)

    Kegerator Do’s and Don’ts

December 27, 2007 By: CarpetGuy Category: Beer/Brew Equipment, Cool Websites No Comments →

    Kegerator Do’s and Don’ts
    TheDrunkMansBlog

    Do’s

    * Do get a kegerator. If you drink beer regularly, then it’s worth it. The beer is cheaper when you buy it by the keg, and it’s more convenient to just take your glass to the tap.
    * If your wife or girlfriend objects to the kegerator, then tell her you are doing it to save the environment. After all, re-usable kegs are much more eco-friendly than all that glass for the bottles.
    * Do clean your beer lines each time you switch out your keg(s). The beer in those lines is the perfect growth medium for bacteria and yeast that will make your beer taste like crap. Your lines should be cleaned once per month at the least.
    (Read the rest at TheDrunkMansBlog)

I found this post by accident, got to looking around and found there is a lot of useful information at this site! I am putting this one in my Blogroll!
